In 1998, former world boulder champion Mauro Calibani founded E9 as a clothing brand made for climbers by climbers. With passion, creativity and enthusiasm, E9 clothing maintains its authentic, bold and distinctive style in the climbing world today. Not only does this brand produce quality clothing made in Italy, but it embraces a sense of responsibility to contribute to the protection of nature and the planet. E9 shirts, tees, pants, and beanies are made from natural, organic or recycled fabrics.

E9 FABRIC

E9 climbing & outdoor clothing is made from organic and recycled fabrics that are sustainable. Each piece of clothing is labelled with the fabric type used.

  • Organic Cotton uses methods that have low impact on the environment. Organic production systems limit the use of toxic pesticides and chemical fertilisers, and improve the quality of the soil. These methods use less water, support biodiversity and protect farmers from harmful chemicals.

  • Bamboo fibre offers unique advantages like strength, versatility and pleasant softness. Growing bamboo requires less water and less energy, it helps purify the air by consuming carbon dioxide, re-introducing 30% oxygen back into the atmosphere, more than traditional trees.

  • Hemp is naturally organic since it fertilises the soil and renews it with its deep roots, as well as being pest resistant and does not need pesticides or herbicides. Hemp is a very robust plant, whose textile use is becoming more common.

  • Modal & Lyocell fabric comes from bio-based fibres derived from the wood pulp. The fibre is the result of a closed-loop production process that ensures a low environmental impact, optimising the use of water and reusing the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%.  This results in a fabric that’s extremely comfortable, lightweight, flexible, dries quickly, crease resistant and breathable. Also, it’s 100% biodegradable and compostable. An eco-conscious, stylish and durable choice for clothing.

  • Recycled Blend Wool gives the garment great warmth, softness and thermal function, ensuring your body’s maximum comfort when the temperature drops. Most of the wool in the collection is recycled.

  • Fabric Dyes - The Quality System of dye treatments is UNI EN ISO 9002 certified and equipped with anti-pollution systems.

SUSTAINABILITY

zero km approach

KM ZERO APPROACH - PRODUCTION

Almost 100% of E9 clothing is produced within an operating radius of 30km around the headquarters in Ascoli Piceno, Italy. This “Km 0” production and manufacturing approach aims to reduce the carbon footprint through minimising the unnecessary use of fuel by the freight of raw materials.

NATURE - CONSERVATION

Since 2019, E9 is one of over 150 organisations that support conservation projects around the world through the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA), an organisation founded in 2006 with the idea of helping to preserve wild places and ecosystems for future generations. As a charitable organisation directly funding specific projects, the association wants to show that the European outdoor industry is committed to putting something back into the environment, and all working together a real difference can be made. PLASTIC FREE - MANUFACTURING

E9 is one of the outdoor companies that took part in the “Single Use Plastic Project” Team of the European Outdoor Group. Since summer 2020, E9 have eliminated 90% of polybags from their products. In 2021, E9 reached their target of 95% of polybags-free products, and soon to reach 100%. Single-use plastic polybags are often used for the transportation and storage of new clothing, which causes a large amount of plastic waste in the clothing industry. E9 currently uses straw ties to neatly package their products during transportation.
